Home Educators Educating Together

(HEET)

is a Community Interest Company run completely by volunteers.

All of us from the directors to the parent tutors give their time freely for the benefit of the home-educating community.

The Company’s Activities...

Our aim is to support and encourage families in their home-educating journey not replace or take responsibility for the education of their children.

We are not a school. Please don’t leave your children: we are not a drop off centre. Parents are solely responsible for their children’s education and for their safety and participation while at HEET.

We do not offer any legal guidance or support in any scenario involving social services or the local education authorities: for organisations who do offer this please see our useful links section.

The Law

HE is legal in all parts of the UK and always has been. In England and Wales Home education is given equal status with schools under section 7 of the Education Act 1996 which says:

‘The parent of every child of compulsory school age shall cause him to receive efficient full time education suitable a) to his age ability and aptitude, and b) any special educational needs he may have, either by attendance at a school or otherwise.’

Where “otherwise” refers to the right to home educate your child. Other parts of the UK have their own similar arrangements.

What's on

We run classes, workshops and one off events.

For some of these we call in external providers and tutors, the rest are run by fellow home educators.

All people in a teaching role have been DBS checked.

For details please click the What’s On tab above.

You are welcome to come and meet families to just socialise as well: please make contact with us and we will be in touch with details or you can register and go to the “book now” tab and add the social fee to book to come for a social time at HEET.

HEET, from the directors to the parent tutors is run by volunteers.

We are always happy for our team to grow.

If you feel you are able to contribute in any way please don’t hesitate to contact us.
